The Flying Emus were incredibly successful for an Australian country/bluegrass band. They won the 1988 ARIA Music Award for Best Country Album for their album This Town. They won CMAA Golden Guitar awards in 1986 (Instrumental of the Year and Vocal Group or Duo of the Year), 1987 (Instrumental of the Year and Vocal Group or Duo of the Year), 1988 (Instrumental of the Year) and 1991 (Instrumental of the Year). Members include Mike Kerin, Ian Simpson, John Kane, Genni Kane, Graham Thompson (ex-Stars), Malcolm Wakeford, Hanuman Dass, Michael Vidale and Wayne Goodwin. Genni Kane, who was recording with Shanley Del and Jane Saunders for ABC Music in 1994, joined the Australian Family of Country Music for the 'Bridge of Love' recording.
